Traveling to Bali with kids is a great idea. Having fun with your kids in the beautiful beaches and visit interesting cultural and historical places. Experiencing another places and culture would be a very interesting thing to do. If you plan to travel to Bali with kids, I would like to share some important information you have to consider.

Best Time to Visit Bali

Bali is a small island in Indonesian Archipelago with its tropical climate. You can enjoy the sunshine every day. The temperature is usually high with a humid air condition. The combination of hot weather and the high concentration of water in the air will make you and your kids feel uncomfortable if you are not used to staying in this kind of weather condition.

Bali has two seasons, the dry season and wet season. During the dry season, the weather is quite hot, and it can reach 33 degrees Celcius. This season usually starts in April and last until October. In some case, the dry season might not start until May. On the other hand, the wet season will start on October and last until April. If you wish to spend your time outdoors during traveling to Bali with kids, you can come during the dry season. However, the best time to visit Bali around June-August, when the sun is shining all day, but the weather is not really hot.

Place to stay when traveling with kids to Bali

Bali has a lot of places to stay. From Uluwatu in the south most region to beautiful Lovina Beach in the north. If you are traveling to Bali with kids, I advise you to avoid the crowded tourist area such as Kuta and Legian. You can choose the quieter area such as Jimbaran, Uluwatu, and Ubud. These areas are not as crowded as Kuta but have good amenities.

Place to Visit

There are many interesting places in Bali. If you are traveling to Bali with kids, you might need to choose your destination carefully. There are so many choices that you can choose. Ranging from waterpark, cultural attractions, and natural spot are some of the attractions that you can choose while traveling with kids in Bali.

Please pay attention when you are decided to visit a natural habitat of the animal such as the monkey sanctuary. Give extra care for your child as they might approach the animal beyond the safe distance. Another thing that you need to consider is to bring mosquito repellent when visiting any natural places. Dengue fever is the big threat that you should aware of.

If you want to visit a temple, please obey the rule. The general rules of visiting the temple usually found on the announcement board in the front of the temple. However, many temples have their special rules. For example, there are some temples that prohibit children who are not lost their milk teeth to enter the temple. Make sure that you check it with your guide or local people around the temple before entering the temple.

Bali has a lot of food to offer. You can find any kind of food you could imagine here in Bali. From the western, continental, even to vegan and raw food are available in Bali. However, If your kids have an allergy with a certain food, you will have to choose your eating places carefully.

If your kids are allergic to gluten, you can choose the gluten-free restaurant to have your meals. There are some gluten-free restaurants around the island and it is not hard to find the touristic area. Another problem usually comes from nuts allergy. Many Balinese traditional foods contain nut and its variant. So please be aware of choosing your restaurant if you have a nut allergy and make sure that you have asked the waiter about your food.

The problem will become more complicated when you go to the area far from the touristic area. Usually, there are some restaurants, but the food choice is not as many as the restaurant in Kuta or Ubud. My advice for this kind of situation is to bring your own food when you are visiting the places far away from the touristic area. By doing this, your traveling to Bali with kids will be easier.

Are you and your family vegetarian or vegan? If yes, you do not need to worry about foods here in Bali. You can find many vegetarian or vegan restaurant in almost all area of Bali. If you are not sure what to eat, you can always order fresh fruits.

Healthcare Facilities

As a tourist destination, Bali has some modern health facilities. Most of the healthcare facilities will have 24-hour emergency assistance, with the specialist doctor on call to the emergency department. However, those clinics and hospitals mostly located in the southern part of Bali. If you are far away from the touristic area, you might find it is harder to find the healthcare services. When you need the assistance, you can ask your accommodation as they usually know the nearest medical assistance from their premises.

You can also ask for “Puskesmas” or Public Health Care Centre that available in every district but mostly operated during the day only. The Puskesmas is not as sophisticated as a private clinic, but they are able to deliver the basic care for your health need. If they are unable to help you, they will refer you to nearst hospital. In the evening, you can visit a GP practice when you need assistance. Ask your host to find you a “Dokter Praktek”.

If you or your child need to take medicine regularly, I recommend you bring extra medicine from your home country as some medicines are not available here in Indonesia. You might also need a prescription for some medicine that you can buy over the counter in your home country.

Insurance

I will say that you must have medical insurance when traveling to Bali and make sure that you know what is covered and not covered by your insurance. Read your insurance policy carefully and make sure you know which facilities I Bali you can use the cashless facilities, and what is their reimbursement policy. This will help you a lot when you get sick in Bali.

Those are the things you should consider before traveling with kids to Bali. Feel free to ask or leave a comment. You can also read my another article about what to pack before traveling to Bali with toddlers. Have a good holiday!
